iPad, I covet thee
I want one. I really want one but…
…I just can't rationalize buying one.
I have been agonizing over buying one since it launched and every time I get my hands on one, I have exactly the same thought. This is such a beautiful gadget but after 5 minutes of playing with one and talking to the owner, I keep talking myself out of buying one.
I have a vision of how I want to use it. Basically it will make the hour long train ride to and from work a richer experience. I will read the paper, all my favorite magazines and the blogs I love. I will watch videos. I will blog and tweet. It's going to be wonderful.
The problem is that whenever I talk to anyone who is using one, they are basically doing two things: Watching videos, (something I can do better on my MacBook Pro) or doing things they could just as easily be doing on their iPhone.
The interesting thing is that the power of word of mouth convinced me in a nano second about why I needed an iPhone. The power of word of mouth moved me from an entirely PC/Windows world to an entirely Mac World. But when it comes to the iPad, word of mouth is just not getting me there yet.
So far it's reinforcing what my heart says: "Buy it. It's so gorgeous!", but it stops there. My brain isn't buying it. My circle of influencers who are using an iPad or equally coveting it, haven't convinced me that I need it yet.
I know I will give in some day but sorry iPad, so far brain is beating heart.
